Creating a model or miniature for use on camera is more than just making something smaller, or in some cases larger. The details, textures, and paint finishes are everything. The use of real world physical models and miniatures has significantly decreased since the modern era of CG. However, there are, on those rare occasions, still the need and practicality to do things in what some might consider to be an old fashioned way. However, the artistry of being able to create something that you can touch is something computers will simply never replace.
