Though a 1/2" scale miniature, this set was no small project. I was hired in by another scenic comany to build and over see the building of this miniature airplane hangar. This was built for a Delta commercial announcing their new logo and branding. At 1/2" = 1' this set measured 10' x 12' with a 36" tall ceiling. That was our construction size. Scaled up to the real world that would be a hanger 240' x 288' with a 72' tall ceiling. A scale model basically the size of a room...with a short roof. For this reason we consumed things at a fast rate. We bought out two stores of all their fish filters just to tear them apart. It also meant hours of gluing the same part multiple times over. There were 110 ceiling vents that had three steps in gluing them into a finished part that could then be attached to the ceiling. All 80 high-bay lights were fully functioning, and again required late nights. Over all, 5 other individuals worked to complete this project. We broke off into groups focusing on individual areas. Two working on the ceiling, two on the walls, one on the floor, and myself focused ( lost ) in the small parts to hand off to the others to attach. |
